Missed Days

If your child is out sick or has to miss school one day for personal reasons I can put together a package of missed work for he/she to work on!  If you know that your child will be out a head of time I can get the package put together early for you as well!

Please be advised that this work is practice.  You do not need to send their makeup work back to me, just please be sure that they do it so that they do not get behind.

*I do check their work everyday for completion and understanding.  But in Kindergarten we do not take letter grades, we check for mastery.  The first six weeks I do not mark on their worksheets at all.  Starting the second six weeks you will start to see marks on their papers.

Music in the Classroom

I for one believe in having music in the classroom. Our classroom playlist ranges from classical to Bob Marley to Coldplay, to David Bowie etc. I remember before I started teaching I read a study that playing Bob Marley to babies was beneficial for calming them down because reggae music mimics the mothers heartbeat.

I figure if it works when they are babies it has to work when they are 4, 5 and 6. I have to say that it totally does. In fact, all types of music as long as it's mellow tends to help with the nervous chatter during independent work time.

Does your child have a specific artist or band that they respond to? I would love to have a bigger playlist to listen to, so ideas are welcome!!

This week...

This week in the classroom:

  • I will start the process of assessing each child.  These assessments are to help me focus on what skills each child needs to work on.  I will be testing: alphabet/sounds, counting 1 -?, recognizing numbers 1-10 and the ability to write their name.
  • Both Mrs. Sanchez and I will be out of the classroom on Friday.  I started talking to the class about substitutes and how to treat them.  We also read Mrs. Bindergarten Stays Home From Kindergarten.  Each day of the week we will talk about the feelings in order to prepare them for the substitute.  I will be back on Monday.
  • The classroom is in need of 3 sets of headphones for the student computers.  I am unable to find any extra at the school so if you have any extra unused headphones at your house we will take them!

Welcome!

Welcome and thank you for visiting Rm. 212's Kinder"garden" blog!

This blog will serve as our class website! Any information you need can be found here! If you have any suggestions or see anything you like please comment and let me know! We love comments here!

Why is there a "garden" in Kinder"garden"?
-Good question! I recently was put in charge of the Butterfly Garden at TM Primary! But don't go look at it just yet! We had a lot of construction done around our school buildings and the garden was torn up quite a bit. Not to mention the lack of rain! I did receive a grant from the Ladybird Johnson Wildflower Center for wildflower seeds. These seeds will be planted in the Fall!

This blog is a work in progress! I promise to have it up and running at full capacity super soon!
