Butterfly Garden

This garden is a work in progress!

This past Spring I received a grant from the Ladybird Johnson Wildflower Center.  I will soon be ordering the wildflower seeds for fall planting.

Hopefully we will get some rain soon so that the soil will get nice and loose.   Weeding will be so much easier when the soil is damp.  After cleaning up the area, trimming back plants, and weeding we will be able to start planting butterfly, caterpillar and hummingbird attracting plants.  Here are some Texas Native plants that we will be focused on using:

Passion Vine
(A strong and drought resistant plant that is a host plant to the Gulf Fritillary Caterpillar and Butterfly.)
Milk Weed (Butterfly Weed)
(Monarch's and Monarch Queen's love this plant!)
Lantana
(Another tough plant! Butterflies and Hummingbirds both love this plant!)

Cigar Plant or Firecracker Plant
(The plant goes by both.  Very hearty plant that hummingbirds love!)

If you have any plants, soil, mulch, gloves, shovels or any other items you would like to donate it would be greatly appreciated by the whole school!
